Lady Gaga

Hailing from New York City and catapulted into super stardom, Lady Gaga was welcomed by thousands of little monsters at Rogers Arena as the Monster Ball made its way to Vancouver.

Semi Precious Weapons, friends of Gaga’s from back in the day, opened the show. What they lack in musical talent, they made up for with plenty of spunk, energy, and enthusiasm.

The Monster Ball was nothing short of spectacular, pure entertainment from start to finish. The theme of the night was Gaga and company (her back up dancers) trying to find their way to the Monster Ball.

Gaga entertained with an abundance of costume ranging from a studded bra ensemble, to a sparkly one piece body suit, to a glittery purple leather jacket with massive shoulder pads, and my personal favourite, a huge white tassel costume, complete with a loud head piece, that bore resemblance to an oversized lamp shade or It off The Adams Family. The originality, creativity and intricacy behind Gaga’s wardrobe was so refreshing. The stage pieces used were equally impressive as a flaming grand piano, a subway cart, a tentacle-flailing giant inflatable monster, and a car with a piano built into the hood accompanied Gaga onstage.

Gaga’s blood, sweat, and tears entertained Vancouver’s little monsters for two hours. Gaga filled her set with a number of her hit singles off of The Fame and The Fame Monster, including “Just Dance”, “Paparazzi”, “Love Game”, “Telephone”, and “Alejandro”. She also treated the audience to “You and I” a jazzy, old school, rock and roll track off her upcoming album.

During the show Gaga addressed the crowd with such enthusiasm and positive energy, handing out inspirational speeches throughout the night. Gaga made it known that her love and adoration for the gay community will be ever lasting. She believes in equality for every single human being, rich or poor, gay or straight, from all walks of life.

Virgin Mobile, a sponsor of Gaga’s Monster Ball Tour, donated $20,000 from each show to Gaga’s charity of choice, the L.G.B.T. (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered) Youth. In return every night during Gaga’s show, she calls one lucky fan to meet her after the show.

Throughout the concert Gaga interacted with the audience on such a personal level, more so than any other artist I’ve seen. You can tell she really does love her little monsters, who in return paid homage by dressing up as Gaga. From caution tape, to disco ball head pieces, hair bows, one piece body suits, leotards, and pop cans and cigarette hair accessories, it was every single creative piece of fashion by Gaga come to life.

Appearing in a giant gyroscope, Gaga ended the show with her hit single “Bad Romance”. Gaga’s concert was one of the most memorizing, dance filled shows in a long time to grace the stage at Rogers Arena. With no one harder working that Gaga, she is truly an inspiration to the music industry.

Giving everything her heart and soul, it’s no holds barred for Gaga when it comes to creativity, music, and image because after all she is a free bitch, baby!
